Ok! The contest is closed, and I have 11 beautiful entries to judge. I have a very busy week coming up where I will be on vacation for a week starting Wednesday, so please be patient! I will try to choose the 3 winners within the week, but this isn't a promise. Thankyou all for entering, and I'll post a new journal in the near future announcing the winners!

This is the first time I'm hosting a contest on dA, by the way, so be nice! Now. I happen to think horses are incredibly cute when they're angry. This may be due to the fact that most of the anger I've seen in my favorite real life horses has been a complete and utter bluff. So, I haven't sustained any injuries besides a simple love bite from my equine friends.
Your entry is to be of a very, VERY angry horse. The angrier the better! I'd prefer the anger to be expressed mostly on your equine character's face, but their body positions can be whatever you want to aid in the conveying of this most powerful and threatening emotion!
I'm hoping to receive a variety of situations that have made your horse angry. Horses don't just flatten their ears, wrinkle their nostrils and give the stare of death for no reason! Your horse can be dominating another horse (but make SURE your horse is the focus by either centering him/her or making the other in the background, etc.), angry at a passing animal or even angry at his/her owner! I don't care what you do. Just make it a generally realistic situation. I know you're all quite creative, so I look forward to that individuality coming out! You should also write a short story for your entry and display it in the deviation's description. The story will only be a marginal part of the judging process and should be 8 sentences in length at a minimum.
If you're going to enter, you can send me a message on this journal or in a note, especially if you'd like me to approve your equine so you don't complete a deviation that isn't acceptable. All final entries should be sent to me in a note with a link to the piece. I'll post the links of the entries in this journal and update as things progress.
The purpose of this contest is to encourage all deviants to work on a horse's expression. Once you have mastered anger, you may be inspired to draw other emotions and learn a little more about posture. It's also a good opportunity to write and express yourself and your character with words. Lastly, it's for fun! Not everyone's summer is jam-packed with entertaining activities, and I know this contest will severely brighten mine!
1. Your equine should be a horse/pony and a horse/pony ONLY. If it doesn't have four hooves, has wings, horns or other unnatural appendages, please choose another of your characters.
2. The entry should contain a fully colored horse/pony and a fully colored background. The quality of the background is up to you since most of the focus should be on your character. If it's a choice between a simply epic background and skimping on the character, you'd best rethink that!
3. Please create a full body shot of your equine. Headshots won't be accepted.
4. Do not create a horse for this contest. Any horse created after today won't be accepted as an entry.
5. You do NOT need to be in the HArpg for this contest, but you must have an equine character of your own with its own name. If you have a character you've drawn currently without a name, please give it one for the contest. You may also use a horse you know in real life, but please don't use a famous one!
6. All art categories are acceptable as long as you've created the angry expression. For example, a photograph of an angry horse isn't allowed. I'd prefer traditional or digital art for this contest.
7. All colors whether natural or unnatural are permitted.
8. If you'd like to enter but don't have an equine character, please send me a note about possibly leasing one of mine to use. Remember, you can also use one you personally know from real life.
9. You may use a/some reference(s), but do not copy an exact one. Make sure to apply your own changes.
10. Linearts made by anyone but yourself are not permitted.
11. Only one entry per deviant, so choose your very best!
The deadline of this contest is now Saturday, August 1st at midnight. I won't accept any entries past midnight on this date unless you've spoken to me, and I allow it.
I will be choosing my favorite entries by my lonesome. I will look at your character as 70%, your background as 25% and your story as 5% of your total "score" from 1-10. The scores won't be revealed to individuals and are only for me to determine winners. This is a contest based on effort over skill, and I'll look closely at everyone's deviation. I'm estimating the judging will take no longer than a week following July 22nd.
I know I'm no expert, but I put a lot of time and effort into my pieces and attempt as realistic of a drawing as possible. This is a learning experience for all of us, and I'll certainly be helped by making these prizes and looking at everyone's gorgeous art!
Now that I've practically run out of bullet colors, the last thing I'd like to say is that I'd greatly appreciate anyone who'd like to advertise this contest, seeing as it's open to anyone with his/her own equine character. Feel free to tell your friends, and please let me know if you have any questions or comments regarding this contest.
Happy drawing!
